RESUMO

Dental caries remains a major public health problem, with a higher prevalence among in adolescence. The present study aimed to assess the dental caries spectrum profile in children and adolescents in Brazilian public schools. A cross-sectional study was performed in two public schools in Brazil to examine the permanent teeth of children and adolescents. The dental caries were assessed by applying the Caries Assessment Spectrum and Treatment (CAST) instrument, and the results were distributed as per disease status (healthy/codes 0-2; pre-morbidity/code 3; morbidity/code 4-5; severe morbidity/codes 6-7; mortality/code 8) and by severity as per the CAST-F1 formula (no severity, mild, moderate, and severe). The CAST data were described by age groups (8-9 y, 10-11 y, 12-13 y, 14-15 y, 16-17 y, and 18-19 y). The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to investigate differences in CAST prevalence and severity among the groups (p < 0.05). Total 598 students were enrolled. Most of the subjects were male (53.34%) and belonged to the age group of 12-13 y (34.95%). The variables CAST 0/1 (p = 0.024), CAST (p = 0.024), and CAST-F1 (p = 0.029) showed significant differences among age groups, and the post hoc test showed the differences in these variables as per the age groups of 14-15 y and 16-17 y (CAST 0/1, p = 0.047; CAST, p = 0.047; CAST-F1, p = 0.033). The dental caries spectrum increased from 8 to 19 y with a peak in the prevalence and severity in the middle of adolescence.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of ART restorations using High Viscosity Glass-ionomer cement (HVGIC) with conventional restorations using resin composite in Class II cavities of permanent teeth, in a 2-year follow-up. METHODOLOGY: Seventy-seven restorations were made with each restorative material, Equia Fil-GC Corporation (ART restorations) and Z350-3M (conventional restoration), in 54 participants in this parallel and randomized clinical trial. Restorations were evaluated at 6 months, 1 and 2 years using the ART and the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. Chi-square test and Survival Analysis (p<0.05) were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The success rates for ART restorations were 98.7% (6 months) and 95.8% (1 year) for both criteria. At 2 years, success rate was 92% and 90.3% when scored by the modified USPHS and ART criteria (p=0.466), respectively. The success rates for conventional restorations were 100% (6 months), 98.7% (1 year) and 91.5% (2 years) for both assessment criteria. ART restorations presented a lower survival rate by the criterion of ART (83.7%) when compared to the modified USPHS criterion of (87.8%), after 2 years (p=0.051). The survival of conventional restorations was 90.7% for both evaluation criteria. CONCLUSION: At the 2-years follow-up evaluation, no statistically significant difference was observed between the success rate of ART restorations with HVGIC compared to conventional restorations with resin composite in Class II cavities of permanent teeth.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to present the results of a consensus meeting on the threshold property requirements for the clinical use of conventional glass-ionomer cements (GICs) for restorative indications. METHODS: Twenty-one experts on GICs evaluated the results of tests on mechanical and optical properties of 18 different brands of restorative GICs: Bioglass R [B], Chemfil Rock [CR], Equia Forte [EF], Gold Label 2 [GL2], Gold Label 9 [GL9], Glass Ionomer Cement II [GI], Ionglass [IG], Ion Z [IZ], Ionomaster [IM], Ionofil Plus [IP], Ionostar Plus [IS], Ketac Molar Easymix [KM], Magic Glass [MG], Maxxion R [MA], Riva Self Cure [R], Vidrion R [V], Vitro Fil [VF] and Vitro Molar [VM]. All experiments were carried out by a team of researchers from Brazil and England following strict protocols, under the same laboratory conditions throughout, and maintaining data integrity. RESULTS: There was consensus on: determining as primary properties of the material: compressive strength, microhardness, acid erosion and fluoride release, and as secondary properties: contrast ratio and translucency parameter, in order to rank the materials. Seven brands were below the thresholds for restorative indications: IZ, IM, IG, MA, VF, B and MG. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the primary properties adopted as being essential for restorative indications, the conventional restorative GICs that met the thresholds and could be considered suitable as long-term restorative materials were: EF, GI, GL9, KM, IP, GL2, IS, CR, V, VM and R. A decision-making process to select the best GIC must also include results from clinical trials. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This study provides a ranking of GICs that could be considered suitable as long-term restorative materials based on their main properties.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the translucency parameter (TP) and contrast ratio (CR) of different conventional restorative glass-ionomer cements (GICs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen brands of GICs were evaluated. Five disks of each material were made following ISO 9917-1. The luminous reflectance and Central Bureau of the International Commission on Illumination parameters of disks were evaluated using a colorimeter, against backings of white and black, to obtain the translucent parameter and contrast ratio of different brands of glass-ionomer cements. The correlation between translucency parameter and contrast ratio was assessed with the Pearson correlation test. The translucent and contrast ratio parameters values were submitted to the one-way ANOVA and Tukey test for multiple comparisons (p < 0.05). RESULTS: There was a strong inverse relationship between CR and TP (r2  = 0.94, p < 0.001). The contrast ratio decreased as translucency increased. There were significant differences in TP and CR among brands (p < 0.001). CONLUSIONS: GICs exhibit different translucency and contrast ratio behavior. Some brands of GICs presented very low TP and this condition would be unacceptable for areas with esthetic demands. In addition, TP and CR showed a strong linear relationship. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The results found in this study demonstrated that the knowledge of the translucency and CR of different conventional restorative GICs is important in order to guide clinicians in the selection of restorative GICs for anterior teeth.

The objective was to evaluate the compressive strength (CS), diametral tensile strength (DTS), flexural strength (FS), and Knoop microhardness (KH) of different conventional restorative glass-ionomer cements (GICs) and to correlate these mechanical properties (MP) with the stabilization time (ST) of their chemical bonds. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey test (p<0.05). The Spearman rank test was used to evaluate the dependence between the MPs and ST results. The highest MP values were EF, GL2, GL9, GI and KM and the lowest for MG, MA, B, VF and IM. The longest ST was for GL2 and the shortest was for B. ST correlated positively with MP. GICs with longer chemical bonds ST are generally stronger and the ST value obtained from FTIR was useful in predicting the strength of GICs tested.

OBJECTIVE: Glass-ionomer cements (GICs) modified with cellulose nanocrystals (CNs) were characterized and evaluated for compressive strength (CS), diametral tensile strength (DTS) and fluoride release (F-). METHODS: Commercially available GICs (Maxxion, Vidrion R, Vitro Molar, Ketac Molar Easy Mix and Fuji Gold Label 9) were reinforced with CNs (0.2% by weight). The microstructure of CNs and of CN-modified GICs were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) while chemical characterization was by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Ten specimens each of the unmodified (control) and CN-modified materials (test materials) were prepared for CS and DTS testing. For the fluoride release evaluation, separate specimens (n=10) of each test and control material were made. The results obtained were submitted to the t-test (p<0.05). RESULTS: The CN reinforcement significantly improved the mechanical properties and significantly increased the F- release of all GICs (p<0.05). The GICs with CNs showed a fibrillar aggregate of nanoparticles interspersed in the matrix. The compounds with CNs showed a higher amount of C compared to the controls due to the organic nature of the CNs. It was not possible to identify by FTIR any chemical bond difference in the compounds formed when nanofibers were inserted in the GICs. SIGNIFICANCE: Modification of GICs with CNs appears to produce promising restorative materials.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of external energy sources on the dynamic setting process of glass-ionomer restorative materials. METHODS: Eighteen brands of GIC were studied: Bioglass R (Biodinâmica; G1), Chemfil Rock (Dentsply; G2), Equia Forte (GC; G3), Gold Label 2 (GC; G4), Gold Label 9 (GC; G5), Glass Ionomer Cement Type II - (Shofu; G6), Ionglass R (Maquira; G7), Ion Z (FGM; G8), Ionomaster (Wilcos; G9), Ionofil Plus (Voco; G10), Ionostar Plus (Voco; G11), Ketac Molar easymix (3M ESPE; G12), Magic Glass R (Vigodent; G13), Maxxion R (FGM; G14), Riva Self Cure (SDI; G15), Vidrion R (SS White; G16), Vitro Fil R (Nova DFL; G17) and Vitro Molar (Nova DFL; G18). LED, halogen light or ultrasound (n=20 for each set) applied for 30s was used to activate setting, and a control group of each material was allowed to set without activation. Samples were analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy using the ratio of intensities of bands at 1637cm-1 (carboxylate) and 1720cm-1 (carbonyl) as a function of time. Means and standard deviations were subjected to ANOVA and Tukey tests (p<0.05). RESULTS: All three activation modes significantly reduced the time at which the carboxylate content became stable in G2, G4, G5, G6, G8, G10, G14, G16, G17 and G18. By contrast, in G1, G7, G12 and G15 no activation source had any significant effect (p>0.05). SIGNIFICANCE: External activation sources, namely LED, halogen light and ultrasound, typically but not always increase the setting rate of restorative GICs.

SOURCES: The Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences (LILACS), Brazilian Bibliography of Dentistry (BBO) databases from Latin-American and Caribbean System on Health Sciences Information (BIREME) and PubMed/Medline (US National Library of Medicine - National Institutes of Health) databases were searched regardless of language. Altogether, 1146 in vitro studies were selected. Two reviewers independently selected and assessed the articles according to pre-established inclusion/exclusion criteria. Among all the properties investigated, only one study was classified as being of fair quality that tested compressive strength and was included. It was observed that many authors had not strictly followed ISO recommendations and that, for some properties (diametral tensile strength and microhardness), there are no guidelines provided. CONCLUSIONS: It was not possible to compare the results for the mechanical and optical properties of conventional restorative GICs due to the lack of standardization of studies.

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the effectiveness of class II restorations, in permanent teeth, through the ART technique in comparison to composite resin. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Participants (154), aged 8 to 19 years, with good general health, with class II cavities in permanent teeth, and without pulp involvement and tooth pain were included in this parallel and randomized clinical trial. The Ethics Committee approval number was CAAE: 24012913.0.1001.5417. Seventy-seven restorations were made with each restorative material (Equia Fil-GC Corporation and Z350-3M). Evaluations occurred at 6 and 12 months by the criteria of ART and the USPHS modified. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney, chi-square, Fisher's exact, chi-square tests with linear trend and logistic regression by enter method (p < 0.050). The Kaplan-Meier test evaluated the survival rates of the restorations. The log-rank test compared the survival curves. RESULTS: Regardless of the evaluation criteria used, the success rates of ART restorations were 98.7% (6 months) and 95.8% (12 months) and for composite resins were 100% (6 months) and 98.7% (12 months), with no statistical difference of restoration groups (p > 0.050). Survival rates for restorations, regardless of the evaluation criteria used, are the same as the success rates, with the exception of ART restorations at 12 months of follow-up (94.8%). CONCLUSION: No differences in the success rates of class II restorations of ART compared to resin composite, in permanent teeth, were observed after 12 months. CLINIC SIGNIFICANT: HVGIC can safely be used to restore proximal cavities in permanent teeth up to 12 months.

Objective: To evaluate the fracture resistance (RF) of Class II Glass-ionomer Cement (GIC) ART restorations with and without proximal retentions. Material and Methods: 20 freshly extracted human molars were used. Forty (40) standard Mesial-Occlusal (MO) and DistalOcclusal (DO) preparations (20 for each material) were performed with a 245 bur. The unprepared surfaces of the teeth were protected with nail polish and the specimens submerged in 0.5Mol EDTA solution, pH 7.4 for 8h under stirring. The preparations were finished with dentine spoons and 50% received proximal retention with # 3 excavators. 20 cavities were restored with Chemfil Rock (10 with retention and 10 without retention) and 20 cavities were restored with Equia Fil (10 with retention and 10 with no retention) and were stored in an oven at 37ºC and 100% relative humidity for 24h and submitted to axial compression loading in Test Machine - EMIC at a rate of 0.5 mm / minute, until restoration fracture occurred. The values were analyzed by two-way ANOVA (p<0.05). Results: ChemFil Rock presented 300.84 (69.20) (without retention) and 361.70 (81.08) (with retention) and Equia Fil showed 314.60 (69.97) (without retention) and 366.67 (103.38) (with retention). Data obtained with retention were statistically superior to those obtained with non-retained ART restorations (p=0.014). No statistical differences were detected between materials (p=0.761). Conclusion: Retentive grooves improved fracture resistance of Class II GIC ART restorations. (AU)

Material e Métodos: Foram utilizados 20 molares humanos recém-extraídos. 40 cavidades padronizadas no sentido Mesial-Oclusal (MO) e Oclusal-Distal (OD) (20 para cada material) foram realizadas com uma broca 245. Os preparos cavitários foram submersos em solução 0,5 mol Mol EDTA, pH 7,4 por 8h sob agitação e foram finalizados com colheres de dentina, nos quais 50% receberam retenções proximais com escavadores #3. 20 cavidades foram restauradas com Chemfil Rock (10 com e 10 sem retenção) e 20 cavidades foram restauradas com Equia Fil (10 com e 10 sem retenção) e armazenadas em estufa a 37ºC e 100% de umidade relativa por 24h e submetidos a carga axial de compressão na máquina de ensaios EMIC a uma taxa de 0,5mm/min, até que a fratura de restauração ocorresse. Os valores foram analisados por ANOVA twoway (p<0,05). Resultados: ChemFil Rock apresentou 300.84 (69.20) (sem retenção) e 361.70 (81.08) (com retenção) e o Equia Fil apresentou 314.60 (69.97) (sem retenção) e 366.67 (103.38) (com retenção). Os dados obtidos com retenção foram estatisticamente superiores àqueles sem retenção (p=0.014). Não houve diferença estatística entre os materiais (p=0.761). Conclusão: Os sulcos retentivos melhoraram a resistência à fratura de restaurações de ART de Classe II de Cimento de ionômero de vidro (CIV).(AU)

RESUMO

Biological restorations, involving a technique of uniting autogenous or homogenous dental fragment for use as the primary restorative material, are an alternative for morphological and functional reestablishment of teeth with extensive coronal destruction. Despite the wide range of restorative materials available in dentistry, no material has proved to be as efficient as the natural tooth structure. This article illustrates a therapeutic option for rehabilitating a devitalized mandibular tooth with a weakened coronal remainder by using the biological restoration technique. The authors present the sequence of planning and performing the technique, such as the characteristics of preparation of the tooth and fragment, impression taking, cutting and cementation of the fragment, and the four-year follow-up of the biological restoration, which shows the success of the technique with marginal adaptation and satisfactory esthetic appearance. As restaurações biológicas, envolvendo uma técnica de união de fragmentos dentários autógenos ou homogêneos como principal material restaurador, são uma alternativa para o restabelecimento morfológico e funcional de dentes com destruição coronal extensa. Apesar da ampla gama de materiais restauradores disponíveis na odontologia, nenhum material provou ser tão eficiente quanto a estrutura dentária natural. Este artigo ilustra uma opção terapêutica para reabilitar um molar inferior desvitalizado com um remanescente coronal fragilizado, utilizando a técnica de restauração biológica. Os autores apresentam a sequência de planejamento e execução da técnica, tais como as características de preparação do dente e do fragmento, moldagem, recorte e cimentação do fragmento, e o acompanhamento clínico de 3 anos da restauração biológica, mostrando o sucesso da técnica com uma adaptação marginal e aparência estética satisfatória (AU)

Purpose: The aim of the present case-control study was to investigate whether there was any association between occupation and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in a Brazilian population. Methods: This population-based study investigated an occupation that was classified according to the International Standard Classification of Occupations. The sample consisted of 665 individuals, of whom 133 were cases of OSCC, selected from reference hospitals for cancer in Paraíba; and 532 were part of a control group, paired by age, gender, place and smoking habit, who participated in the study. Results: There was statistically significant association between OSCC and occupation (p<0.001), alcohol consumption (p<0.001) and marital status (p=0.003). The variables marital status, occupation, alcoholism and smoking were shown to be statistically associated with the development of cancer of the oropharynx with Odds Ratio (OR) ranging from 1.8 to 11.2 Conclusion: Occupational exposure to chemical and physical carcinogenic substances, as well as the condition of living with a partner may be raised as possible risk factors for the development of cancer of the mouth and oropharynx.


Objetivo: O presente estudo de caso-controle teve como objetivo investigar se existe associação entre ocupação e carcinoma de células escamosas orais (OSCC) em uma população brasileira. Métodos: Este estudo populacional investigou a ocupação que foi classificada de acordo com a Norma Internacional de Classificação de Ocupações. Foram incluídos 665 indivíduos, sendo 133 casos de OSCC, selecionados de hospitais de referência para câncer na Paraíba e 532 participantes do grupo controle, pareados por idade, sexo, local e tabagismo. Resultados: Houve associação estatisticamente significativa entre ocupação (p<0,001), consumo de álcool (p<0,001) e estado civil (p=0,003). As variáveis estado civil, ocupação, alcoolismo e tabagismo mostraram-se estatisticamente associadas ao desenvolvimento de câncer da orofaringe com Odds Ratio (OR) entre 1,8 e 11,2. Conclusão: A exposição ocupacional às substâncias químicas e físicas cancerígenas, bem como a condição de viver com um parceiro podem aumentar a possibilidade de fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento de câncer de boca e orofaringe.

Developing new restorative materials should avoid damage to tissue structures. This study evaluated the biocompatibility of a commercial dental glass ionomer cement (GIC) mechanically reinforced with cellulose microfibers (GIC+CM) or cellulose nanocrystals (GIC+CN) by implantation of three test specimens in subcutaneous tissue in the dorsal region of 15 Rattus norvegicus albinus rats. Each rat received one specimen of each cement, resulting in the following groups (n=15): Group GIC (Control), Group GIC+CM and Group GIC+NC. After time intervals of 7, 30 and 60 days, the animals were sacrificed and the following aspects were histologically evaluated: type of inflammatory cells, fibroblasts, blood vessels, macrophages, giant cells, type of inflammatory reaction and capsule thickness (µm). These events were scored as (-) absent, (+) light, (++) moderate and (+++) intense. The results were statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney post test. At 7 days, Group GIC+NC showed more favorable tissue repair because quantitatively there were more fibroblasts (p=0.022), fewer macrophages (p=0.008) and mononuclear cells (p=0.033). Polymorphonuclear neutrophils and giant cells were absent in all experimental periods. At 60 days, test specimens in Group GIC+NC were surrounded by a fibrous tissue capsule with reduced thickness (26.72±2.87 µm) in comparison with Group GIC+CM (41.21±3.98 µm) (p=0.025). In general, all biomaterials showed satisfactory biocompatibility, but glass ionomer cement modified with cellulose nanocrystals showed a more advanced tissue repair.

Resumo Os novos materiais restauradores em desenvolvimento devem evitar danos aos tecidos dentários. Portanto, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a biocompatibilidade de uma marca comercial de cimento de ionômero de vidro convencional (CIV) modificado com microfibras de celulose (CIV+MC) ou nanocristais de celulose (CIV+NC) através da implantação de três amostras em tecido subcutâneo na região dorsal de 15 ratos Rattus norvegicus albinus. Cada rato recebeu um exemplar de cada cimento, resultando nos seguintes grupos (n=15): Grupo CIV (controle, n=15), Grupo CIV+MC e Grupo CIV+NC. Nos intervalos de 7, 30 e 60 dias os animais foram sacrificados e os seguintes aspectos foram avaliados histologicamente: tipo de células inflamatórias, fibroblastos, vasos sanguíneos, macrófagos, células gigantes, tipo de reação inflamatória e espessura da cápsula (µm). Estes eventos foram quantitativamente classificados conforme os escores: (-) ausente, (+) suave, (++) moderado e (+++) intenso. Os resultados foram analisados estatisticamente pelo teste Kruskal-Wallis e pós-teste Mann-Whitney. Aos 7 dias, o Grupo CIV+NC demonstrou um nível mais elevado de reparação tecidual porque havia maior quantidade de fibroblastos (p=0,022) e uma menor quantidade de macrófagos (p=0,008) e células mononucleares (p=0,033). Neutrófilos e células gigantes estavam ausentes em todos os períodos experimentais. Aos 60 dias, o Grupo CIV+NC apresentou cápsula de tecido fibroso com espessura mais reduzida (26,72±2,87 µm) em comparação ao Grupo CIV+MC (41,21±3,98 µm (p=0,025). No geral, todos os materiais apresentaram satisfatória biocompatibilidade, no entanto, o cimento de ionômero de vidro modificado com nanocristais de celulose proveu reparação tecidual mais avançada comparativamente aos demais materiais avaliados.

Objective: To investigate if an association exists between diet and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in a Brazilian population. Material and Methods: This populationbased study investigated food groups intaken by means of a quantitative food frequency questionnaire (QFFQ) validated for use in Brazil. It was included 665 individuals, being 133 cases of OSCC, selected from reference hospitals for cancer in Paraíba and 532 being part of a control group, paired by age, gender, place and smoking habit took part in the study. Food consumption related to cases and control groups were evaluated by QFFQ. The Chi-square test was carried out in order to verify if there was association between the categorical variables. The level of significance was 5%. Conditional logistic regression was performed by the Enter method in order to verify the odds ratio of independent variables that predict OSCC. Results: It was found statistical association between OSCC and: processed and variety meats (p=0.048), dairy products (p<0.001), oils and fats (p<0.001) and alcoholic beverages (p<0.001). The high consumption of cereals and tubers (OR=0.53; CI95%: 0.29-0.96; p=0.0039) acted as protection factor for OSCC. Conclusion: Data of the present research suggest that the ingestion of animal fat, food rich in salt and refined carbohydrates were associated with OSCC cases.

Objetivos: Investigar as correlações existentes entre saúde bucal, ansiedade, depressão, estresse, alterações cognitivas e uso de medicamentos em idosos. Métodos: Os dados foram coletados em domicílio, por meio de questionários sobre dados sociodemográficos e uso de medicações; exames bucais para investigar o índice de dentes cariados, perdidos e obturados; e instrumentos para avaliar a presença de distúrbios psicossociais. Os seguintes instrumentos foram aplicados: Mini Exame do Estado Mental (alterações cognitivas), Escala de Katz (grau de dependência), Inventário de Depressão de Beck, Escala de Depressão Geriátrica (depressão), Inventário de Ansiedade de Beck (ansiedade) e Inventário de Sintomas de Stress para adultos de Lipp (estresse). Também se investigou a quantidade de remédios usados. Foi realizada análise descritiva e teste de correlação de Spearman. Resultados: Foram incluídos 37 idosos com idade média de 73,41 anos. O índice CPO-D médio foi 25,38. Dos 37 idosos, 21,6% foram classificados com depressão leve/moderada, 45,9% apresentavam ansiedade, 78,4% tinham comprometimento cognitivo e 54,1% tinham polifarmácia menor. Foram encontradas correlações estatisticamente significativas de forma positiva e moderada entre idade e saúde bucal; de forma negativa moderada entre idade e alterações cognitivas; e de forma positiva forte entre depressão e estresse resistência e entre ansiedade e estresse resistência. Conclusões: Saúde bucal, ansiedade, depressão, estresse e medicação foram fatores correlacionados na amostra de idosos estudada.


Aims: To investigate the correlation between oral health, anxiety, depression, stress, cognitive impairment, and use of medications in the elderly. Methods: Data were collected using household survey questionnaires on sociodemographic variables and use of medications; oral examinations for detection of decayed, missing, and filled teeth; and questionnaires to verify the presence of psychosocial disorders. The following instruments were applied: mini-mental state examination (cognitive impairment), Katz scale (index of independence), Beck depression inventory, geriatric depression scale (depression), Beck anxiety inventory (anxiety), and Lipp's stress symptom inventory for adults (stress). The quantity of medication used was also investigated. A descriptive analysis and Spearman's correlation test were performed. Results: Thirty-seven elderly individuals, mean age of 73.41 years, were included in the study. The mean DMFT index was 25.38. Mild to moderate depression was detected in 21.6%, anxiety in 45.9%, cognitive impairment in 78.4%, and lower polypharmacy rates in 54.1%. Age and oral health showed a moderate statistically significant positive correlation; age and cognitive impairment revealed a moderate negative correlation; and there was a strong and positive correlation between depression and the resistance stage of stress and between anxiety and the resistance stage of stress. Conclusions: There was correlation between oral health, anxiety, depression, stress, and medication in the investigated elderly sample.
